Activism and BDS Beat 23 June 2015
The Palestinian political prisoner has been on total hunger strike since 7 May – almost 50 days – to protest his prolonged “administrative detention” by Israeli occupation forces without charge or trial.
The ICRC called on Israel to allow Adnan’s family to visit him. He has not been allowed to see them for more than two months.
As The Electronic Intifada reported Sunday, Adnan’s family and Palestinian human rights defenders have made urgent appeals for international intervention to save his life.
Activists from International Women’s Peace Service in Florida are planning a 24-hour hunger strike and rally outside the Red Cross building in Tampa on Thursday in solidarity with Adnan.
In the brief video above, Haidar Eid, the Palestinian scholar and activist in Gaza, performs a poem dedicated to Adnan. The words, here in English, are by Kauthar Mustafa:
Extend your steps, the walk to freedom is still long
And we have no alternative
Every step on the road is a lantern
So how can we not go on?
