Tadamon! Montreal, in collaboration with local musicians and artists, presents a benefit concert in solidarity with the people of Lebanon. All proceeds will be donated to the Sanayeh Relief Center, which operates in central Beirut, providing frontline humanitarian aid to thousands of internally displaced Lebanese. The all-volunteer center also provides essential information through its newsfeed, bombardment maps and independent media, and organises political action against the complicity of the “international community” in the aggression. As the Israeli military launched a major military assault on Lebanon and the ongoing siege of the Gaza Strip Radio Tadamon! visited the Palestinian refugee camps of Beirut. Voices featured in this episode of Radio Tadamon! draw parallels between the escalating military attacks on Lebanon and the ongoing Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Over 300 civilians have lost their lives in the Israeli assault on Lebanon which has targeted the national infrastructure of the country including all major highways and bridges throughout the south of the country. As Israeli attacks on civilians continue and escalate day after day in Lebanon and Palestine and as the world’s governments support Israel’s crimes or, at best, turn a blind eye to its actions it is time for the people to speak. Saturday July 22, 2006 has been declared “International day of action against Israeli aggression”. We call on people all around the world to rise up on that day and be heard. Please organize an action in your city or area on that day under the banner of the “International day of action against Israeli aggression”. If you already have something planned for that day condemning Israel’s actions or in support of the people of Palestine and Lebanon, please link it to the international action. In July of 2006, Tadamon! [Solidarity! in Arabic], a Montreal-based collective of social justice organizers and media activists, will be sending a delegation to Lebanon. In the context of historic political change taking place in Lebanon and throughout the Middle East region, this delegation will be producing independent media reports concerning the current political, social and economic situation in Lebanon, for dissemination through alternative media networks in the Middle East, North America and internationally including the Electronic Intifada. Listen to a radio documentary on Burj el-Shemali refugee camp, located on the outskirts of the southern Lebanese city of Tyre & home to upwards of 20 000 Palestinian refugees. Recorded in Burj el-Shemali during the summer of 2005, this documentary focuses on the present day political, economic and social situation facing the Palestinian residents of the camp, within the context of ongoing major political changes taking place in Lebanon.
