Since the beginning of the second intifada in September 2000, the Israeli Occupation Forces have killed more than 860 Palestinian children. In response to these killings of children, and the consistent use of excessive lethal force against Palestinian children, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights is launching a major investigative report on child killings perpetrated in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) strongly condemns the eruption of violence at al-Azhar University in Gaza City at the end of last week. The violence involved students damaging parts of the university and destroying university property. Dutch prosecution authorities failed to arrest Ami Ayalon, currently Minister without Portfolio in the Israeli Government, while he was visiting the Netherlands from 16 to 20 May 2008. An application for his arrest was submitted to the Dutch authorities by Khalid al-Shami, who alleged that he was a victim of torture from 1999-2000. On Saturday, 27 September 2008, a Palestinian teenager from Aqra village southeast of Nablus City was shot dead by Israeli settlers. Clashes between Palestinian police and gunmen from the Dughmosh clan claimed ten members of the Dughmosh clan, including two children, and a police officer. On a hot afternoon during the month of Ramadan, there are few better places to be than resting beneath the shade of an orchard of guava trees, with the scent of fresh ripening fruit wafting around you. During the last two days of August, the Egyptian authorities permitted approximately 3,300 people to cross the Gaza border at Rafah into Egypt “for humanitarian reasons.” The sight of more than 50 busloads of travelers heading out of Gaza may have given the impression that movement restrictions are finally easing inside the Gaza Strip.
