Abe Foxman, the national director of the Anti-Defamation League, is quoted (“American Jews tread softly on ‘road map’ during war in Iraq,” March 26) as saying, “The timing is problematic” for the road map to lead to Palestinian-Israeli peace.
If Mr. Foxman is a man of genuine goodwill, then he should answer the question of whether he thinks there has ever been a non-problematic time for Palestinians to call for their freedom.
Does he support a viable Palestinian state comprising the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem or not?
If not, his words should carry little weight as the alternative to a viable Palestinian state - other than one state for both Palestinians and Israelis - is an apartheid-like bantustan.
Surely the leader of the ADL would not call or implicitly back apartheid as an outcome for the Palestinians.
And surely he will move speedily to denounce the inclusion of backers of ethnic cleansing in the current Sharon coalition government.
