Matthew Cassel, a journalist based in Beirut and former editor of The Electronic Intifada, describes how the Israeli army fired at protesters marching from the southern Lebanese town of Maroun al-Ras to the fence marking the boundary with Israel. Cassel describes witnessing protesters passed out and he saw with his own eyes two persons fatally wounded. After the Israeli army opened fire on the protesters, the Lebanese army shot above the air above the crowd, terrifying the protesters and causing them to scramble back up the mountain towards Maroun al-Ras. During the interview with Al-Jazeera English, the Lebanese army began firing tear gas at the protesters who were mainly young Palestinians, marching to mark the 63rd anniversary of the dispossession of historic Palestine and to assert the refugees’ right of return.
