Last week The Electronic Intifada’s Ali Abunimah was a guest on Talk at Ten, a weekday interview program on Marfa Public Radio. Ali is currently in Marfa, Texas as a Lannan Foundation writer-in-residence, working on a follow-up to his 2006 book One Country, which he discusses extensively in the interview.
In the interview, Ali gives an overview of the hundred years of Zionist settler colonization of Palestine, dispelling the founding myths of the State of Israel and challenging the “conventional wisdom” that the partition of Palestine will lead to peace.
Ali also discusses the burgeoning movement for boycott, divestment and sanctions to hold Israel accountable, and the counter-movement to repress Palestine solidarity efforts, particularly on US campuses.
Ali also gives a brief history of The Electronic Intifada, which was launched in 2001 — “in Internet years, that’s like 1,000 years ago,” Ali jokes — in reaction to mainstream coverage, which shut out Palestinian voices and perspectives. Since then, Ali comments, The Electronic Intifada has been able to “go out and do the kind of reporting that we don’t see others doing,” providing something “really unique” and which is read by more and more visitors each year.
Ali also participated in this roundtable debate on the one-state versus two-state solution and the UN recognition bid, published yesterday by In These Times.

A very interesting and informative radio interview, especially for the American listener. However, it is regrettable to note that Ali Abunimah failed to raise the issue of the Right of Return for those Palestinians who were expelled from Palestine when the radio discussion was getting hot on that issue. Was that intended?
